Why this matters

A data centre has several physical boundaries with different users and consequences. The site perimeter, building, technical room, cage and cabinet should not automatically share one access model.

What to confirm

Separate permanent operations staff, temporary maintenance, vendors and emergency access. Door hardware and cabinet interfaces require different dimension, power, monitoring and installation checks.

A practical working method

Define what each system records: identity, credential, command, door state, cabinet state or exception. Logs are useful only when names, timestamps and responsibilities are consistent across systems.

Records, acceptance and handover

Link cabinet access to asset or work-order processes where appropriate, and align location names across physical security and operations. Include credential loss, system outage and emergency access in the design.

Evidence and scope

This article is intended for preliminary product and project discussions. Product functions, performance, certification, compatibility and availability must be checked against current documentation for the selected model and the actual project requirements. Application examples are not claims of completed customer projects.
