Check the condition and alignment of doors, gates, hasps and cabinets. A distorted door can create operating loads that appear to be a lock fault. Installation orientation and the ability to operate the key safely also matter.

Maintain continuous lock-point numbering through repairs and expansions. Add lock condition to routine inspection forms so corrosion, stiffness, damage and missing identification are found early.
